Felix Mendelssohn, one of the great romantic era composers, wrote many short pieces, sweet and lyrical piano along some twenty years (approximately from 1820 to 1840), entitled Lieder ohne Worte or song without words. In fact, these works represent a fourth of the number of songs by Mendelssohn composed for piano.Those that were published consist of eight volumes with about six songs per volume.Although these works are celebrated and interpreted by many people, there are people who believe that they are not very desirable, since they lack of difficulty and technical skill when compared with works of the same era.
